Rrresonator Rrrreview
08.02.2010 Centipede Eest (they dropped the apostrophe, it seems) have grown out of the cantankerous properties that stung their earlier records, and have instead chosen to focus their formidable musicianship on their true niche, which seems to have been making a really strong progressive rock record all along. On their third album, Resonator, the Pittsburgh band explores complex arrangements that swell to stadium-sized intensity (“Forks at Kudatheda” is officially their best song, like Alex Harvey and that mime dude Zal Cleminson filling out the Flaming Lips), without succumbing to overambitious tendencies, and their former attempts to shoehorn very distinct world music elements into long-form rock. What used to be just kind of odd and charming is now a really serious, forceful band in control of its sound. Adding a fifth member didn’t hurt either. Seriously worth your time and examination, because there’s very few bands pulling off anything this accomplished. You don’t hear much about these guys, but it’s possible that Resonator could fix that. 500 copies. - Doug Mosurock, Dusted

04.14.2010 Still Single reviewed the new 7", check it out here: link "Personally I find these guys the most interesting when they abandon any semblance of rock/roll completely and go off on bizarre instrumentation and haunting moods, which “Owl’s Nest” does admirably..." (Doug Mosurock) 7 and 7 was
03.16.2010 Thanks to all who came out and celebrated our new 7". Stress Ape ruled, it was a blast. Our friend Phill recorded it and has a new blog up featuring live sets by a lot of fine Pittsburgh bands (and our good friends Cave from chicago). It's new but it hit the ground runnin'! Blog can be found here: http://livemusic.ruinthejoke.com/ Check our shows page for updated tour dates. If you can help in any of the tba's, get in touch! Resonator LP release show details TBA. Peace. 02.11.2010 Mid-March will see the release of a 7" (both songs exclusive) along with a show with our buds Stress Ape in celebration. On April 6 our new LP, Resonator, will be birthed by the mighty fine upstart label New Ruins out of Chicago. It captures what we have worked towards since our inception - a democratic approach to a hybrid rock music that incorporates written and improvised sounds with the recording, writing, and production (down to the cover art!) taken care of by the band. We will be touring starting the end of April and going through mid to late May. Please get in touch if you want to help with a show or two. Peace. NYC/CHI
11.10.2009 Shows in Chicago and New York in the next few weeks, so check 'em out if you're around there. 7" featuring two new and exclusive songs is being pressed right now, so that should be available via New Ruins Recordings in a few weeks. |
